Abortion Clinic
Protests outside of abortion clinics have been fairly routine for years since the landmark Roe v. Wade decision allowed certain abortions and, thus, legal abortion clinics to open. Many of these people protest against the abortions themselves, but there are many clinics that offer a variety of other resources in addition to performing safe abortions, all of which contribute to the decision of aborting a baby or not. Thus, these incorrectly named abortion clinics are often actually clinics for the variety of health care, both mental and physical, that goes into the decisions associated with carrying a child.
1. Counseling
Having an abortion is an incredibly big strain on the mother and, often, the father of the potential child. As such, it is not a decision that is weighed lightly or decided upon in the first minutes of visiting a clinic. It is, of course, an alternate option to having the child and keeping it, or having the child and giving it up, both of which are also difficult decisions to make. Good abortion clinics will often offer some sort of counseling service to the parent or parents considering these choices. Moreover, good abortion clinics never offer advice specifically aimed at persuading the parent into one position, but instead help the parent decide what is best for all concerned, without reference to the clinic’s opinion.
2. Pre-Natal Care
While some clinics may offer abortions, many of these clinics also offer pre-natal care for parents who are unable to afford full health care but are certainly looking to keep their child. These clinics provide birthing classes, ultrasounds, etc., all in the name of providing for a healthy child. This, of course, is the opposite of performing abortions, but is offered by plenty of different clinics commonly referred to as “abortion clinics”.
3. Blood work
Frequently, abortion clinics will offer blood work services as well. This is very important for testing for illnesses and diseases, some of which can be so serious as to bring up an unforeseen consideration of abortion. Blood work is incredibly important in these clinics to ensure both the health of mother and child, and to provide awareness in case of poor health.
4. Abortions
This, of course, is what abortion clinics are most known for. But these abortion clinics do not offer services akin to those from before abortions were legal. Instead, they offer far more sterilized, controlled situations. Furthermore, these clinics offer Plan B, commonly known as the “morning after” pill, which may or may not be inducing an actual abortion.
